Nexguard was founded by Scott Carpenter in 2024. Scott began making baseball gloves outside of his time working at a Rawlings glove factory in 2000. In 2011 he made the first non-leather baseball glove ever used in a MLB game. In 2018 his brand of Carpenter gloves was acquired by Marucci Sports. After five-years working as Marucci's Master Glove Designer, Scott returned to an old design challenge that catchers asked him to work on: make a more effective thumb guard that catchers actually like. Scott had made earlier custom tailored guards for catchers like Ivan Rodriguez, Carlos Ruiz and Erik Kratz, but it wasn't until 2024 that he developed the overlapping design that allows this product to scale and reach more players.
Scott runs a glove R&D workshop in Cooperstown NY down the street from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. He and one assistant are proud to be making all Nexguards here in Cooperstown, NY, USA!
